Approved Home Cleaning Supplies

We have compiled a list of all-purpose and bathroom sprays, laundry detergents, dish soaps, and glass cleaners that use a variety of minerals and plant-based ingredients to naturally sanitize and wash home goods. There are also several companies who creatively use only ingredients found in the kitchen to formulate gentle disinfectants. In addition to the full list of chemicals on the Approved Products page, these products are free of:

• Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) and methylchloroisothiazolinone - chemical preservatives that are toxic and cause skin irritation, allergies, and contact dermatitis. The EU determined it is not safe for the consumer in any leave-on products.

• Glycol Ethers - a group of solvents that can cause reproductive damage

• Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) - a silicone thickening agent that can be contaminated with carcinogenic impurities and by-products, such as ethylene oxides and 1,4-dioxane.

• Propylene Glycol - a surfactant with evidence of allergic and irritant contact dermatitis as well as systemic cutaneous reactions.

• Cocamidopropyl betaine - a synthetic detergent and surfactant that is possibly toxicant)

• Fragrance/Parfum - synthetic fragrances can include up to 3,000 chemical ingredients, including hormone disruptors such as phthalates.

• Non-vegetable Glycerin - if not explicitly stated as vegetable-based glycerin, it may be petroleum-based which can be contaminated with toxic chemicals called PAHs.
