Description:

PFDoDA is a long-chain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) associated with fluorochemical manufacturing and the breakdown of fluorinated precursor chemicals. Potential sources of exposure include contaminated food, especially fish and seafood, drinking water, household dust, industrial emissions, and PFAS-treated materials. PFDoDA is extremely persistent and has a strong potential to accumulate in organisms and food webs. Its health effects have not been studied as extensively as those of PFOA and PFOS, although available toxicological evidence raises concerns about possible effects on the liver, fetal development, reproduction, and metabolism. Because this PFAS is environmentally persistent and may remain mobile or bioaccumulative depending on its structure and exposure setting, the glossary applies a precautionary approach where long-term hazard and exposure information is limited.
