Nail products can feel like a small thing, but they sit right at the intersection of beauty and chemical exposure. We haven't found a GO nail polish option yet that meets our highest bar, but we have identified a few SLOW choices that fall within "10-free," meaning they avoid ten of the more concerning ingredients commonly found in traditional polishes. These typically exclude things like formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, camphor, DBP (dibutyl phthalate), xylene, ethyl tosylamide, parabens, fragrances, and animal-derived ingredients. We also know nail color can be a big part of self-expression, so the goal is not to shame its use but to help you use it more intentionally. When possible, try to reserve nail polish for special occasions rather than daily wear, especially if you are already working to reduce your everyday chemical load. If you do use polish, wash your hands thoroughly before eating to help limit whatever might transfer from nails to food, and wear a mask while applying polish to reduce what you breathe in from fumes.
